I was referred by my physician to help manage the pain I have associated with my scoliosis. I found Tim to be very knowledgeable about my condition. He always answered the many questions that I had. I never felt rushed and I appreciated the individual attention that I was always given. He assessed me on an ongoing basis and modified treatment whenever necessary. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Tim to anyone.

This was a great experience – in 3 visits, Tim did a thorough assessment, demonstrated to me how the back exercises he was giving me could cause improvement my severe sciatica in just a few reps (by my experience!), and then gave me materials to take home that were so clear and easy to understand in terms of what I should look for in continuing improvement in the time before my second visit. He also did hands on spinal mobilization which really helped. Things improved as predicted, and then we added core strengthening in a short but demanding routine that I can totally fit into my morning. I was able to take a work trip as planned and then when I returned he made some adjustments in exercises and we agreed I could be discharged and return if things went bad again (which they have not.) What an efficient and supportive process he has. Very easy to understand and empathetic to me as well.

I was really impressed with how Tim brought his expertise to bear in helping to diagnose and treat my condition. By this I mean, he used my physician’s initial diagnosis as the starting point, but then brought his own clinical experience and insights to bear (in the context of my evolving/changing symptoms) to dive deeper into the issue and better understand what was going on – he was then able to structure my therapy to address this root cause. All along the way, he maintained good open lines of communication with my physician, so that I felt they were partners in my care and I didn’t have to give my physician a full briefing on my progress when i went in for follow-up appointments (since he already had the full download from Tim).

So, top-notch from a clinical standpoint. Going beyond that, Tim is also a very friendly and personable guy – easy to talk to and enjoyable to be around. Does a great job of explaining to you what exercises/activities you’re doing, why you’re doing them, and how you can expect them to contribute to your recovery.

No one wants to be in PT, but if you have to be in PT, Tim is a great guy to have taking care of you. He’s an excellent physical therapist and I would enthusiastically recommend him to anyone who needs PT.

Tim Zelch was a life saver. I went to him with severe neck and back pains. He closely worked with me for two months and showed me customized exercises to do on my own. I feel so much better and am able to move again without pain. I would definitely recommend Mr. Zelch to anyone who needs a therapist.

Tim helped me through a frozen shoulder. With his help, I’ve regained most the mobility in my shoulder making everyday life so much easier. Tim makes a clear plan which includes specific stretches and strengthening exercises. I’d recommend Tim to anyone needing physical therapy. The staff at Phoenix is also very helpful, supportive and knowledgeable.

A couple weeks after injuring my back and experiencing a significant amount of back and sciatica pain, I went to an orthopedic and he recommended Physical Therapy. I sought out a Physical Therapist that was McKenzie certified. There were two in my area and I chose Tim Zelch. I’m so glad I did. Tim is experienced, professional, personable, and caring. He listened to my symptoms and put together a plan over three weeks to get my pain back to normal. We started off slow and added more exercises (after one session I felt tremendously better!) and three weeks later, I went from 50% of normal to 95% of normal. I will keep up with my exercises, but if I experience pain again, or another injury, I would 100% return to Tim for PT.

Tim was honestly an amazing therapist. He helped my back and neck get healed in such a short time. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs physical therapy. I’m happy to say that I’m back at the gym with no pain. 😊

I have used Tim Zelch for my lower back & Achilles. I was amazed about the improvement in my lower back. I was having weekly disabling spasms in my lower back when I went to him. After 6 weeks, with his emphasis on the Mackenzie method involving positional preference I am no longer experiencing my lower back spasms. He gave me various exercises upon my release from therapy that really work. I would recommend anyone laboring with lower back problems to use his services. He is very knowledgeable, professional & friendly. As far as my Achilles, which was a basketball injury, I am back exercising & making real progress. He is very computer literate & shares articles & exercises by email. I like that because I can access them on my phone or IPad at anytime. He has a big facility with many therapies available.

12 weeks agoTim saved my back!! I came to Tim as a transfer patient from another PT and almost immediately could notice a difference in my pain level and ability to move with ease. Being a new mom at 7 months postpartum, Tim carefully reevaluated my lower back and SI problem areas, and instituted a new PT program, taking into account my daily demands and goal that I eventually wanted to get back into my very active lifestyle of running and hiking. He listened to my concerns, answered all my questions along the way, and responsibly challenged my body as I demonstrated progress. I went from barely able to get out of bed to running short distances and holding my baby with no pain. I am tremendously grateful to Tim for all his help in getting me back to my normal and avoiding any kind of back injections or exploratory surgery. I would highly recommend Tim to anyone despite him being an avid Pittsburgh fan – I wouldn’t hold that against him! Best of luck!!

I had a very good experience working with Tim. I have runner’s knee issue since 9 months. I was at this stage where I was not able to go up/down the stairs and walk from my room to the living room. I was totally devastated. I then came across Pheonix rehab and Dr. Tim was assigned as my PT. His plan was to get me back on the treadmill as soon as possible. And, he did it according to his words. During my twice a week schedule for over 8 weeks, he made me do a combination of stretching and knee strengthening exercises and gave a couple of home exercises. I followed his advice. I can say I am 80% recovered and I am able to run for at least 20 minutes. I have no problem with the stairs now . I graduated PT and Tim has asked me to continue with the exercises regularly. I am so thankful and grateful to him for all the progress I have shown so far.

Very positive experience (which is great when you’re in pain). Tim is everything you want in a healthcare professional: knowledgeable, personable, good listener. The appointments started on-time and I received Tim’s full attention. Hopefully I won’t need any more physical therapy in the future but if I do I’ll be going to Tim.

I call Mr. Zelch, Doctor Tim because of his many credentials and certifications. Dr. Tim is the most knowledgeable physical therapist I have ever had the pleasure to know. I am a reasonably fit senior that caused a partial tear of the supraspinatus tendon by being to aggressive with at-home training program. Dr. Tim was able to work gradually to lessen my pain, and eventually remove all my shoulder pain by his methodic and thorough physical training. I’m a person of a thousand questions, and Dr. Tim was not only able to answer all my questions, but was able to show me the correct method to perform his physical therapy. I would highly recommend Dr. Tim to anyone that is trying to resolve any musculoskeletal limitation.

Tim Zelch is an experienced, talented physical therapist. I began to see him after ankle surgery that left me unable to walk. After 6 weeks, I have made huge progress and I am very grateful to Tim for all he has done for me. I highly recommend him.

It started as a standard neck ache. Improved overnight, but came back the next afternoon. From there it progressively worsened to where I couldn’t turn my head without pain. Trying reverse my car out of a parking space involved either tears or serious body contortion. I was living on a heating pad for just a minimum of relief. Painkillers weren’t helping. I knew I had to find a physical therapist. My sister is a physical therapist, but not local, so I have high standards, and wasn’t going to see any random PT. I looked at quite a few different clinics and therapists much closer to my house before I got to Phoenix and Tim’s bio. All those letters after his name immediately raised my interest. I shared the link with my sister, and she told that’s where she’d want to go. I called the next morning to schedule my appointment. I saw Tim three days the first week (M, T, H). I went in Monday with very limited range of motion, and significant pain if I exceeded that range. By the end of the week we’d increased the range of motion and decreased the pain to tolerable levels. After another couple weeks my neck was completely back to normal! Tim ran me through the whole gamut of PT tools over the course of my appointments: stretches and strengthening exercises, manual therapy and manipulation, traction, and even dry needling. He explains and/or demonstrates everything and why he thinks it’ll help. He was constantly evaluating what I was doing, and how it affected my injury, to find the best treatment plan for me. Besides being a great PT, Tim is also really personable. I think I laughed at every appointment. Being injured is no fun, so being able to enjoy your PT appointment makes a big difference. I know who I’ll be seeing if I ever injure myself in the future!

I would highly recommend TIM ZELCH for physical therapy services. He helped me with the recovery of my broken ankle and tibia. The recovery took many months due to the extent of the injury, but TIM was determined to see that I recovered to my fullest potential after the injury. I had many visits with him and each time he started each session with carefully listening to my current status and modifying the day’s approach to match my needs for where I was at in my recovery. He also took the time to make sure that I understood the movements and activities that I should be doing on my own to help in my recovery. TIM’s approach showed that he was very passionate about his work and had my best interest in mind throughout the whole recovery process.

I had such a great experience working with Tim Zelch. I came into physical therapy for pain in my neck and was experiencing tension headaches. Not only did Tim spend time teaching me exercises and making sure I executed them correctly, he was also extremely willing to answer all of my questions. Every time I came in I felt very comfortable and and Tim was great at communicated what we were going to do and why it was supposed to help. He also sent me home with material I could read for different relief techniques. I am finishing therapy not only feeling physically better, but also with a better understanding of the causes of my pain. Highly recommend Tim Zelch!

I went to Phoenix Rehabilitation because I’d been there last year for something different (knee) and liked it. This time I had arm surgery and needed PT again. I got paired with Dr. Tim Zelch who knew how to recover a newly operated-on bicep tendon. Well, during the 8 weeks, each day my arm progressed, and as per his instructions for exercises, got stronger. The arm had to repair itself and we had to stay in that window to work it not too hard nor not too easy. Following its (the arm) progress. But the great thing is the time Tim spent explaining to me, listening to me, and asking questions at each visit. Tim cares and is a 100% total professional.

Tim Zelch is the best! I would highly recommend him as a physical therapist. He is very knowledgeable and effective with his individualized treatment plans; and has a warm rapport with his patients. I went to him after successful surgery for a broken wrist and made remarkable progress with my hand strength and physical function. I noticed many happy patients being treated for back and feet issues too. Tim is one of the most professional physical therapist you will ever meet.

Tim is a great physical therapist. I was recovering from surgery for a frozen left shoulder and worked with Tim for 2.5 months. My shoulder is now 95% back to what it was before the injury. He gave me a plan to finish the rehab on my own. I like that he didn’t try to milk the insurance company and me for the last 5 percent of the recovery. I found him to be very knowledgeable about the type of injury I had and also the various parts of the shoulder joint and muscles that needed to be strengthened. He makes the sessions fun and enjoyable. I would highly recommend Tim.

Timothy far outperforms any previous physical therapists I have been referred to. Previous therapists would simply “go through the motions” — tell me to stretch and strengthen my core. On the other hand, Tim walked me through what my problem was in a way I could understand. So, from the first appointment I understood, in terms laymen terms what we were going for. Second, when Tim explained what exercises I was supposed to do, he explained why these would help the aforementioned problem. This highly increased the motivation to do these exercises every day. Not only that, after one week of physical therapy, my pain significantly decreased. In all, the man knows what he is doing and how to effectively communicate to his patients what he is doing. I find these two qualities to be the bare minimum of a good experience at PT. On top of that, he is personable and helps you push through any problems you have. Highly recommend Tim to anyone looking for some PT in the Shady Grove area.

Following my not-so-common OATS surgery, Tim was able to get me back on my feet in a safe and efficient manner. He is extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of physical therapy and was able to help me regain full range of motion with no pain! I have one more knee and most likely another surgery so I will definitely see Tim again.

Tim is a personable qualified physical therapist. He treated me for back and shoulder pain. They both improved a lot. When told I had lost a lot of weight because of these pains, he notified my primary care doctor to have me checked that nothing more serious was going on. I highly recommend him for your physical therapy needs.

On Christmas Eve I turned quickly and fell into an enormous amount of pain. Not knowing at the time, I have two herniated disks and three bulging disks in the lumbar region of my back. I made a call to Tim’s practice and he took me in right away to determine what was up. He managed to get me an appointment with a pain specialist the next day. He had compassion on my situation and helped as best as he could at the time. Now I see him weekly so that he can progress my exercise program as I improve. Unlike some clinicians where they constantly want you to come in, Tim has helped me with stretches and exercises I can do on my own. He is McKenzie certified which makes him an expert in dealing with issues like mine. He has helped me maintain a positive attitude and has a pleasant bedside manner. I would recommend Tim Zelch to anyone seeking Physical Therapy.

Tim is very personable, has good intuition, and a killer beard to boot. I have never been treated using physical therapy before, but recently I had a neck injury that would not resolve itself. Tim knew that even though I was feeling better throughout my course of treatment, something still wasn’t quite right. He kept trying different techniques until one finally worked. Thanks, Tim!

I came to Tim with a pain neck/shoulder problem that was persistent for the past 4 years or so. When I first came in he listened carefully to my problem, assessed, and nearly immediately gave me exercises to help reduce my pain which almost immediately helped. I continued to meet with Tim over the next two weeks, in which he worked with me listening to my pain symptoms and giving me additional exercises to help with my problem. Tim is great PT; he is friendly and thorough. Thank you Time for helping me.

Based upon my personal experience, Tim Zelch is an exceptional physical therapist for three main reasons: 1/ He holds advanced degrees in physical therapy, always keeps abreast of the latest developments in the field, and shares this knowledge with his patients. 2/ He has much practical experience, and is very thorough, analytical, and prudent in treating patients. 3/ He cares very much about his patients and has always been available by phone or email when I needed to ask him for advice.

I broke my knee July 20, 2017 at work. I started physical therapy with Tim Zelch on September 21, 2017. When I started I could hardly walk by Thanksgiving I was walking without a cane or the knee brace. At Christmas it was as if I had never broken my knee. Tim is phenomenal in the techniques he uses in physical therapy. There’s no way that I would been able to get back on my feet so quickly. If it hadn’t been for Tim’s out of the box physical therapy techniques. I just can’t thank you enough Tim! I have graduated therapy and Tim still is following up with me.

Tim Zelch is the best therapist I’ve worked with in four states. Though his specialty is spine and back, he has excellent skills in all areas. He is particularly good at diagnosing the problem and probable cause, then developing a treatment plan. With each visit he asked how I felt and whether there was anything new. However, he did not hesitate to modify the treatment plan if progress or anything I reported suggested such. He provided observations, feedback and suggestions regularly so I could focus, refocus or be encouraged. As clinic director, he seems to hire well and provide good leadership as is evidenced by the attitude of staff and the atmosphere for patients. He is professional, compassionate and friendly. While the pain or weakness is not fun, the workout at the clinic can be. I highly recommend Tim Zelch and will go back to him if or when therapy is indicated in the future.

I had a lower back pain and, according to an X-Ray, it appeared to be a spondylosis. Physical therapist Timothy Zelch treated me at the Phoenix Progressive Physical Therapy, Rockville MD. Initially, I had quite noticeable problems with walking, getting out of bed, seating in a chair, etc. not to speak about even a moderate exercising. After a few months of the physical therapy all these problems have been significantly reduced so that I feel much better now. Timothy Zelch provided a thoughtful and well-balanced care. He is a highly motivated, knowledgeable, experienced and truly dedicated professional. He interacted with me in a productive but, at the same time, friendly manner which is important for an overall successful treatment. I would not hesitate to recommend him to a friend. Tim is great! I came to Tim after having a small rotator cuff tear. Tim has helped a lot to relieve the pain and bring stability back to my shoulder. Has constant pain every day before visiting Tim and within 2 weeks the pain has almost completely disappeared.

Twelve weeks of physical therapy with Tim Zelch decreased my knee pain significantly.  I feel reenergized, much stronger and several years younger!  Most importantly, I now prefer to climb seven floors at work several times a day instead of using the elevator. With studied calmness, energy and humor, Tim implemented his tailor-made treatment plan for each session centering around increased repetitions and intensity depending on my progress. Tim motivated me to work much harder than I thought I could with excellent results.

I hurt my shoulder and neck playing sports about five weeks ago and was essentially out of commission. I could barely sit at my desk and my arm was tingling most of the day. I went to see Tim and, within the first week, the discomfort was much better – more importantly, he had shown me the movements and stretches to quickly eliminate the tingling in my arm. By the second week, the discomfort was even better and I was back to doing light workouts. After the third week, I was pain-free while being back to playing basketball and tennis. Last week, I was able to start lifting weights again. All without taking any medicines and by Tim showing me how to not make the problem worse and how to make it better. Tim’s schedule is really flexible, so I could meet him early in the morning and still be at work on time. And he followed up with me throughout the last four weeks to see how I was doing and to make sure I kept doing the stretches/exercises. I hope I don’t get hurt again, but if I do, Tim will be the first person I see.

Excellent service. Tim has helped me with neck and foot issues. Due to very thorough evaluation and accurate diagnosis, I was able to recover quickly. Highly recommended!
